Methamphetamine causes the norempinephrine transporter and the dopamine transporter to switch their direction of flow. This switch causes a release of these transmitters from the vesicles to the cytoplasm and from the cytoplasm to the synapse, causing increased stimulation of post-synaptic receptors.
