While this is accomplished through a variety of methods, the initial phase of drug rehab is to sever the physical dependence which can take from 3 to 10 days depending upon the severity of the addiction. Following physical detox, the majority of time spent at a drug rehab is to sever the psychological addiction and instill a new way of living sober.

Drug Rehab Detox

Drugs and/or alcohol must be removed from the body through a process called detox. Just quitting drugs or alcohol can be dangerous. The body has come to rely on the presence of a chemical and when it is removed, the body revolts. Withdrawal symptoms can range from headaches to seizures and everything in between. For this reason, medically supervised detox at a state-licensed drug rehab facility or hospital is advised.

Drug Rehab Evaluation

Once the body is physically stabilized, the client can be given a clinical evaluation to determine past history of drugs and alcohol use, physical health, emotional issues or trauma, chemical imbalance and family dynamics. This will help the treatment team at the drug rehab devise a treatment plan that is tailored to you. This plan will generally consist of drug and alcohol counseling and education.
