Due to the large influx of doctors prescribing pain medications and the potency of the drugs being prescribed, it has become easier and easier to become addicted to drugs like Oxycontin. Although Oxycontin is very effective at relieving severe and chronic pain usually associated with injuries and terminal diseases, it is unfortunately extremely addictive. In this day of a “pill solves everything,” doctors are more likely to just haphazardly assign medication to patients without looking at more holistic causes. Treatment will include checking into a rehabilitation center where staff and other patients will provide support through the detoxification process which in the case of Oxycontin detoxification can be very painful and even traumatic.
