The purpose of drug addiction rehab is to help the addicted recover from their addictions regardless of what pattern of addiction the individual manifests: Excessive or inappropriate drug use; using drugs to feel normal; needing ever more drugs to experience highs; using drugs instead of having other life experiences; choosing drugs over profession, friend or family. In fact, in addition to these manifestations, the APA’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders lists several additional possible criteria to determine whether or not a drug user is considered an abuser.
