Of all the many forms of substance abuse, alcoholism is probably the most common by far. While other addictions are pretty much a yes or no proposition, alcoholism is a question of degree. Heroin users know that addiction is a real danger, and generally knows when they are addicted, no matter how much they may try to deny it to themselves.
